Sustainable development goal

3.4

Reduce mortality from non-communicable diseases and promote mental health

Goals and Targets

We've chosen Sustainable Development Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, specifically targeting 3.4: Reduce mortality from non-communicable diseases and promote mental health. This goal was inspired by a team member's experience battling Crohn's disease, shedding light on the challenges faced by sufferers and the rise of gut-related issues in younger demographics.

Unfortunately, this phenomenon extends beyond Crohn's disease, encompassing a sudden increase in gut-related stomach issues across Western culture in recent times. The surge in such conditions is attributed to lifestyle factors like poor dietary choices and stress. Of particular concern is the increasing incidence of colorectal cancer among young adults, prompting updated screening guidelines.

To address these challenges, our solution focuses on improving quality of life through dietary management, stress reduction, and practical support such as bathroom locators.

Despite the growing need, existing apps lack comprehensive solutions for individuals with gastrointestinal conditions. Our app fills this gap by integrating features for dietary tracking, stress management, and bathroom location, offering a holistic approach to support those affected.

The following 3 feature of ProdFrost will address the pain points by making eating at home more efficient, desirable, and effective.

Feature 1

Automatic ingredient reordering makes it is easier to cook and eat at home as it ensures the user has the food inventory to make their favourite meals

Workflow:

Feature 2

Recipe Suggestions

Recipe suggestions make cooking at home more efficient by decreasing the

amount of time it takes to determine a recipe that can be made utilizing the ingredients

Dietary Restrictions

Recipe suggestions make cooking at home more efficient by decreasing the amount of time it takes to determine a recipe that can be made utilizing the ingredients the user has on hand

Food Inventory

ProdFrost used real-time inventory visibility to create recipe suggestions based on food the user has in stock

Feature 3

Food Expiration Data Analysis

Food expiration detection and prevention helps users determine which foods they

should eat sooner. This encourages eating at home as it decreases food waste, making it

more eco-friendly and cost effective.

How does this work?

The Prodfrost fridge software keeps track of grocery purchases, as it manages the ordering process. By leveraging expiration data provided by the grocery stores, it monitors the freshness of various items in the fridge. This allows the fridge to recommend recipes that make use of ingredients nearing their expiration, helping to reduce food waste and maximize freshness.

Examples:

  • If fruits are nearing expiration, Prodfrost can recommend various smoothie recipes

  • Likewise If vegetables are near expiration, Prodfrost can suggest new soup recipes as a suggestion to use them up before they go bad
